Introduction
The sweetest event of the year is back!
Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October the city of the Leaning Tower will host the Tuscan finest pastries: a unique chance to taste true homemade products, visit the medieval villages and enjoy the sights and the suggestive landscapes.
The theme of the 4th edition is the sweet side of Italy: on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, Dolcemente will double the exhibition area, hosting a selection of craftsmen from other Italian regions.
The famous chef Gualtiero Marchesi, privileged guest of the event, will give the chance to deepen the theme “composition” in art and pastry, while the cooking school Scuola della Cucina Italiana will arrange workshops for enthusiasts and professional.
Thanks to the success of previous editions, Dolcemente is an important display window for the artisans that made Tuscany one of the main European centres of high-quality pastries. The event has a popular aim, in line with the vocation of Pisa, city of knowledge and site of important scientific institutions. Dolcemente is a refined and complete event, aiming to the protection and development of typical products which usually can’t be found through the commercial channels.
The Leopolda Historical Hall will host the craftsmen with a suggestive mounting entirely made of cardboard, in line with the philosophy of the ecological recycling. As a visitor, you will be guided through the tastings by the craftsmen, so that they can explain the features of their work and listen to your opinions. Thanks to the collaboration with the International Relations Office, Dolcemente will host also craftsmen coming from the European twin cities of Pisa (Angers e Olomouc). Therefore you will be able to appreciate new flavours and know the history and traditions of other European countries.
A section of the Leopolda Station will house the guided tastings: this will be a chance to experience mixed flavours of chocolate and cakes, together with wine and spirits.
For our youngest guests the Leopolda has prepared games and creative workshops in the section Dolcemente Junior, with the help of the Ludoteca Leopolda Junior.
Dolcemente also involves the city centre with two special moments: the boat cruises along the Arno river, with tastings of De Bondt hot chocolate, and the Passeggiata Pasticciata, a walking through the workshops and the artistic and historical beauties of the city of Pisa.
Finally, the edition 2011 also provides: the Bistrot au Chocolat, corner with delicious sweet and savoury dishes from Paul and Cecilia De Bondt; the photo contest Tempting Shot, promoted by the Association imago; the contest “Panforte throw”; performances Sweet Fantasies; other shows organized by the cultural associations of the city.
